This project included a new media center addition, new art and general classrooms, complete replacement of all mechanical and electrical systems, secure entry, and the installation of a retro-fit fire suppression system. Architecture Plus sized the project in phases to be achievable by the Contractor while allowing for the uninterrupted normal school activities. Additions outside on this 60-year old building occurred during the school year while interior renovations occurred during school breaks and summer vacation. This project used passive ventilation, natural daylighting with light pipes and sunscreen/light shelves for optimal lighting and minimal solar heat gain. High efficiency insulated glazing systems with aspect adjusted VLT values for occupant comfort were included. Other sustainable materials include: Linoleum flooring, high recycled content carpet, high recycled content acoustic ceiling panels, low VOC pain and sealants, low volume water consuming fixtures, high efficiency mechanical systems (SEER 15 and above) with economizer cycle options, and high efficiency indirect/direct interior and exterior lighting, with occupancy sensors. A recycling program was established during demolition and construction.
